Camera

canon 1000d via eBay

One of the most common question's and common search terms for my blog is "What camera does LLYMLRS use?" I've mentioned it alot before, but I currently use a Canon 1000d with the kit lens's that come with it. I bought it for about £250 off eBay about a year ago now. I'm hoping to upgrade when I get some more money though.

A super common question I get asked too is if I recommend it for new bloggers. I can honestly say no. If you dont know anything about DSLR's or how to really use them to their full potential there really isnt  much use spending hundreds of pounds on them! I took photography at college so I have a pretty good grasp of how to use a DSLR camera beyond the auto settings. I cant recommend personally any cameras suitable for blogging, as I've never used any others! I think there is far too much stress on needing an expensive camera to have what is generically deemed a "good blog". You just need a good little point and shoot camera that has a few different settings (macro is useful if you have a beauty blog!) that most importantly you understand how to use!

I cant stress enough that just because this is the camera I use, means it will work the same for you. Doesnt mean your photos will come out exactly like mine nor will it make your blog better just because its expensive. If anyone has any suggestions for cameras that they use on their blog that might help people let us know in the comments!

  2. i have a canon 500d but most of the pics on my blog are taken on my iphone! my iphone camera is perfectly good for me to take random snaps all the time, i hate carrying my slr with me 'just in case' cos its so heavy and bulky.

  4. i have the nikon p100 which is a DSLR but I find it doesn't take really crisp photos which I find annoying but it is a good runner with some useful integrated settings but the Olympus pen range looks amazing! x

  5. I have this camera! I got it 2 years ago when I did photography at college. I'm thinking of upgrading to the 550D when I start a new, proper photography course, mainly because the 1000D is only 10MP, where as the 550D is 18MP. It's still a great camera though, but as you say if you don't know how to use DSLR's there's no point in waisting the money. I can't believe you got yours on eBay though! I would have been too scared haha. Sounds like you got a good discount though, so I might have a look at the 550's on there.

  6. I use a Canon Powershot SX130is, although it doesn't look like anything special, it's actually a good little camera with 12x optical zoom and high definition. It has auto-focus which I really like. I got mine abroad so I'm not 100% on the price but I think they're around £200 in the UK! x

  7. Hmm, I bought my Canon 450D a couple of years ago and found it relatively easy to grasp even though I'd never used an SLR before! Though, I'm a total nerd and researched everything I could on how to use the settings, haha.

  9. I have an Olympus PEN EPL-1 which is great, it's a micro four thirds camera, so is much smaller than a DSLR and so light too, but still has inter-changable lenses and lots and lots of different effects, great for blogging and people who aren't great with photography as it pretty much does all the hard work for you, plus it's not too expensive either!

I love my 550, I think Canons are great and at LFW you get it cleaned for free.

  11. I absolutely swear by my camera, and it's only a digital... It's the Sony DSC-W170 and has Cybershot which I personally think makes quite a difference. I'd really recommend it, I don't think there's much it's not good for! X

  12. I have a Canon 500d which is great, Canon all the way! Do you have any outfit photo 'Top Tips'? If you do, it would be great if you could share them with us :)

P.S. I think the new blog is a great idea!

  13. Thanks for the tips!
At the moment I have a FujiFilm Finepix S1500, it's an okay camera. Of course I would love to have a Nikon or Canon camera, but I'm not even using all the settings of my FujiFilm, having a Canon/Nikon with no one teaching me a few things it would be a waste of money (I'm to lazy to read the instructions haha).

  14. I agree about the pressure to have a "good" camera when it comes to blogging, especially blogging with beauty products or fashion.

    Great post!

  15. I've always wondered what camera you use - I'm more of a Nikon girl myself though!

  16. That's a decent price for that camera!

I'm also fasinated by the artwork in the background, it reminds me of Matisse's star figure (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0kzmhMxk1oI/TTaacMHZn5I/AAAAAAAAAMc/awyJLB_ZE-g/s1600/icarus_Matisse.jpg)

  17. If I thought buying an expensive camera like that would produce as beautiful and clear photos as yours, i would purchase it in a heartbeat,

however i can tell it has a lot more to do with the talent of the person taking the photographs,
so i'll have to settle for my boring old point and shoot until i manage to get a grip of confusing technology!

  18. I think if you find yourself getting more interested in photography, then a cheap starter DSLR could be good. But as long as you have a decent spec point and shoot and good lighting, you can take pics to rival DSLR ones! I use a DSLR on my blog for outfit photos but for some of my other photos I use a Canon IXUS 100 IS which takes amazing quality pics and has HD video and a great macro mode. I wouldn't hesitate to use that in place of my DSLR and would be great for a new blogger or anyone without the budget/need for a DSLR xx

I wanted this camera because i really liked photography, and i learned it myself handle the camera.

  20. I use a pretty cheap camera. An olympus fx which only takes photos of 8 mpx but with good lighting the photos are good quality!
I love the way your photos have such great quality. I want a dslr bu not for blogging because i dont want to succumb to that pressure.

  21. I have a cannon t3i, I love it! It is my first DSL but, I'm progressively learning more and more. I thought that if I was going to dish out on a camera, it might as well be a good one!

  23. Hair is looking supreme! I use a point and shoot Fujifilm, when I've played around with the settings I've got beautifully detailed pictures outside. It isn't as great when there isn't good lighting but it definitely still gets great, detailed pictures.

  25. I love photography, I agree with you there is no point of having expensive camera is you don't know anything about it. I'm doing Photography in college now moving on to A2 :) I love my canon 550D.

  26. It's so nice to hear someone say you don't need a huge, expensive SLR camera for blogging! If you're not into photography and understand it, there's not much point forking out all that money on a camera you're not going to use to its true purpose. I have a Fujifilm camera I got from the refurbished section on their website - the camera's are in perfect condition and half the RRP. Mine is 12.2mp and has macro and auto focus settings and such, and was only £60!

  27. I use a Fujifilm finepix s5800 its only 8meg and needs batteries... i still ♥ it thou :)!!

  28. I bought the Olympus PEN-EPL1 last year to give my blog photography a bit of a kick up the bum, and to learn a bit of photography myself. I paid ~£360 on it with a kit lens off Amazon.

I love this camera because it comes with great point and shoot settings (I'm a beginner so its great to be able to use the camera straight away and then delve into all the manual settings slowly). It has image stabilisation built into the camera NOT the lens which makes them lots cheaper when its time for an upgrade. And with a good adaptor I can use the full range of Canon lenses. Plus its a lot smaller than the big DSLRs by Canon and Nikon so I can carry it around with me in my handbag without much trouble. I think it was my prefect choice for what I needed.

  29. Is unable to personally recommend any cameras appropriate for codification, and I did not use any others. I think that there is now a lot of stress on the need for expensive camera you have what is generally considered a good blog.

  33. Hey hun, just read this following our chat the other day. Really good post, and actually so true about needing to know how to use the camera before spending loads on one. Think I need to do a training course prior to investing :) Thanks for this post xx
