Clarisonic Mia: £120
This isn't a full blown review, as I've only been using my Clarisonic Mia for a few weeks, just my initial thoughts on my experience with it so far. I paid £93 for my Clarisonic on ASOS a few weeks before Christmas, I've wanted one for ages but the huge price tag has always put me off. Not being a skincare junkie I didn't want to spend all that money on something that may or may not work. However like most things I want I do eventually cave in and buy them!
I had a really bad experience with it at first, I actually gave up using it for a week as I couldn't cope with all the spots I'd got from it. Your supposed to go through a "purging" phase which lasts 1-2 weeks, but mine was more like 3 weeks. Its the period where all the stuff under your skin comes to the surface and breaks you out. I had really horrible spots all over my chin and nose. Im not normally really spotty, I get the occasional breakout but this was horrible. My skin looked terrible. I was so dishearted by it all I was blaming everything from my Dermalogica Cleanser to not washing my brushes before realising it was the Clarisonic that was doing it do me. Although, I have noticed my skin is SO much brighter, so clean and fresh looking. Its really improved the sallow look I used to have to my skin. My skintone has gone from being very dull to a much brighter clearer shade. I havent noticed much decrease in my blackheads though which Im dissapointed about.
I've been using this with a cream cleanser, like Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, but I think a foaming cleanser might work just as well. I use it three times a week, I started off using it daily and my breakouts were insane. Toning it down to three times a week has kept my skin feeling smooth but not as broken out.Currently I still have some spots from "the purging period" that are refusing to budge, although overall my skin has improved alot. I'll update again when I've used it for a few more weeks, so far I think its a really good tool, but just so expensive. I do sort of question is it really worth it at this stage. Like I said I'll update in three weeks with my final thoughts on it!

I want it !!!
ReplyDeleteI watched a review on Youtube about the Mia only yesterday! I really, really want one but it sure is pricey. Think I might have to wait till I go back to Aus, anyway, so it doesn't take up space in my case!

I'm really sceptical whether it's worth going through that whole spotty phase.. Will look out for the other post on it once you've got a bigger idea of how it is!

Im still slightly going through the purging phase. I switched to philosophy's purity cleanser which I love! My skin seems to be getting better on it x
ReplyDeleteI bought it too after I saw the offer Grazia were doing, I like it so far, no 'purging phase' luckily!

I really want to try it but soooo scared it will break my skin out in spots!!! I dont normally get spots but when I change my skin car routine I get them really bad. Urgh. x
ReplyDeleteThanks for this Lily! Looking forward to the next post about it. I really want one but I'm a little wary as to whether it actually works or not. Definitely not looking forward to the spotty period though!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review darling..im abit skeptical because of purging period as i have just recovered from acne but like you i will probably cave in :P especially sinse its my bday soon :) Love your blog xxx
ReplyDeleteHave been waiting for this post! I have a cheaper version of this but not sure if it's as good. I do love the whole idea of them though!

I don't get why you would pay £93 for something that breaks you out like crazy. I know its supposed to be good but seriously? Its so expensive which defiantly means i CANT buy it :L

I think this looks like such a good product but even for a discounted £93 I don't think I could justify buying it, boo! Maybe one day when I'm rich ha x

I dont think I could ever bring myself to use something that tries to 'purge' healthy skin,
ReplyDeletebut I guess im just really weary of stuff like this as I suffer from pretty severe eczema, but if it works then thats good!

I REALLY want to get a clarisonic but I'm always put off by its price. I hope it's worth its money! lovely review! :) xx

I only got a couple of small spots that went quickly so it must be different for everyone, I wouldn't be put off thinking that you definitely will get lots of spots because for me the benefits have far outweighed the two little ones I got x
ReplyDeleteslightly put off due to the 'purging' stage, I really don't need any more spots! X
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to try it but I'm scared of the purging phase! I have very pale skin and any blemishes tend to stick around as scars for quite a long time. Maybe someday I'll work up the courage but for now I think I can deal with sticking with my beloved Cleanse & Polish. xxx
ReplyDeleteMaisyetc.
I have the Clarisonic Mia too! I love it.. I got it on buyapower for £90 It's worth every penny in my opinion but i'm not sure if I'd pay £120! - I went through the 'purging' phase and it is by no means as bad as everybody on the comments is making out! I feel going through that it has thoroughly cleansed my skin and now my skin looks a lot brighter and healthier, my products look better on my skin and almost 'sink in' even better than before!
ReplyDeleteLucy xx
the 'puring' stage puts me off the most, i know it's good to get all the dirt out, but if it's not breaking you out, is it so bad to leave it there?
ReplyDeletethat probably sounds really gross!
I use a NutraSonic which is a cheaper very similar version of the Clariosonic. Check out my recent review here; ;-)

I'm glad its working for you. I'd hate to have a purging phase that long though. I don't mind a week or so but it's took me years to get my skin the the state it is in now.
ReplyDeleteGood luck though!
I got my Clarisonic two months ago and my three-week long purging phase was HORRENDOUS. I am prone to breakouts anyway, but the spots I got were unlike anything I've ever had before - really raised and painful and all over my face. I was actually embarrassed to leave the house because it was so horrific. I then had three weeks of the most beautifully clear, soft and glowing skin followed by another week of horrendous breakouts. I'm currently still in purging v 2.0 phase and I don't know when this torture will ever end.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I love the look and feel of my skin after using my Clarisonic I've broken out so badly twice but have also had three weeks of the clearest skin I've ever had. Still undecided about it really even though I adore using it. Going to give it another month or two before I give it my final verdict.

I'm so tempted by this, it just seems like the price tag is ridiculous! xx
ReplyDeleteReally need to invest in one of these. Scared about the "purging" period though :/ x
ReplyDeleteI really want to get this, but I'm a little bit unseure because of the price and the breakouts. I'll definitely wait for your final review and then make a decision. :)

Hmmm, the purging phase and all its torment! I am currently using Retin-A cream, which also "comes" with a purging phase and I feel I'm going insane after a week. I recognize the same MO and I think that, despite the nerve wracking period, we kind of have those brakeouts, but we don't see them.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, I keep thinking about one of these but I'm so scared of the purging period. Knowing my luck, mine won't end. Will be interested to hear your final thoughts :)
ReplyDeletehmm, i'm contemplating getting one of these but will have to wait to hear your final thoughts before i make my decision!

I want one! xx
ReplyDeleteIt really astounds me how people think that this "purging phase" thing is ok. It isn't! I'm trained in skincare and if you are getting breakouts, that is your skin telling you to stop doing whatever you are doing to it! The skin on your face should not be scrubbed everyday. It actually does need a certain amount of oil to keep a protective layer. daily scrubbing is too harsh, stripping away all of its natural oils and protection, which upsets its PH balance, hence all of the breakouts! What makes me really mad is that this company have clearly made up all of this "purging phase" crap as a clever marketing ploy so that you don't return the product (which i'm sorry, looks like it could be a vibrator) so that people continue to use it, hoping that this "purging phase" stops and keep blogging about it, so that more people buy it and think that the breakouts wont last and the buying cycle continues. The most common problem i see people for are breakouts and the minute people stop scrubbing their faces like there's no tomorrow, their skin improves dramatically. Scrub no more than once a week. Abi x x
ReplyDeleteOh I'm really not sure about the whole hype around this. I think i'd end up going back to my exfoliating with my hands and a good scrub
ReplyDeleteThe price of this really took me back a bit. I might stick to my pumice stone! Haha :)

Great review ! Love reading your thoughts on this ! xx

Quite an honest review which I like !
ReplyDeleteClarisonic - the 93 quid machine that will give you spots ! NICE.
Usually I get a facial done at my local beauticians where she gets rid of my blackheads and white heads, facial mask etc and its inexpensive. And my face looks a lot healthier in the end. I was honestly wanting to try this out, but now oh hell no.
Ah I'm in my third week of using the clarisonic mia as well! And agreed, I'm also experiencing the 'purging' period at the moment because my breakouts are still pretty consistent if not a little worse to how they were before I started using the product... but my forehead has gotten quite clear! It's also that time of month for me, which probably also explains my breaking out...
ReplyDeletefingers crossed for good results!
I absolutely swear by Liz Earle. I've used it since I was about 10, and it's been a god send.
ReplyDeletePs - help please! :)

I would buy this but the skin purging puts me off! I really appreciate such an honest review! :)

ReplyDeleteIt sounds horid especially after reading Abi's comment above! thanks for shedding some light on the 'purging phase'
I have been using mine since xmas and Im still getting spot but I feel it has still really helped my skin . I totally love mine, and use it every night to really clean my skin

I think everyone is so confused about buying Clarisonic. Will it work or not? oh decisions, decisions )
ReplyDeleteoh wow, never heard of the 'purging' phase with these things before, that's almost as scary as the massive price tag!
