which beauty box do you reccommend?

uk best beauty box

Choosing which beauty box to subscribe to is HARD. Really hard, essentially your putting your faith in a company to give you a good return on £10-£13 a month for 5-6 product samples. I'm always asked which beauty box I'd recommend, and I can't honestly answer that question. Seeing as contents vary from month to month there is no real way of me saying "this service is better than this one" as every month the samples are different, its all down to personal preference and your taste.

One month could be an amazing beauty box the next could be a terrible one, They are incredibly unpredictable. However one persons rubbish is another ones treasure. For example I know I don't like Carmine, I got the first box, thought it wasn't for me and unsubscribed, I then resubscribed and got another two boxes which I didn't like (I didnt even post about them so it says alot!). So Carmine has beens eliminated for me. However I know a lot of people love Carmine as they tend to give out make up samples (which I don't want).

At the end of the day your the only one that can decide which box you feel is right for you. The more I think about it the more I realise beauty boxes are a bit of a waste of money. Especially if you cant afford to waste money each month on things you might not like. Sometimes I think I should have spent that tenner on one product I wanted rather than 5 that I probably wont use. I see alot of people commenting on the beauty box Facebook pages requesting Nars or MAC stuff in their boxes, but you have to realise that beauty boxes aren't an excuse to stock up on high end products. They are samples for you to try and see if you like. Beauty boxes aren't trying to give you products for cheap, they are giving you a sample in the hope that you'd like it and go on to buy full size. Would you rather have a full size MAC eye-shadow (£12 or £10 if you wanted one in a pan!) that you know you'll love because you picked it yourself or risk that money on 5 you might not?

I don't think beauty boxes are for everybody. I subscribe to (and pay for)  Feel Unique and then get Glossy Box and Jolie Box sent for free for me to review. I know for a fact that if I wasn't getting the two free I wouldn't be paying for all three. That'd be over £30 a month I'd be essentially gambling away. I wouldn't personally recommend subscribing to more than one box. I do know that if it came down to only choosing one box, I wouldn't know which I'd choose to keep.  Its worth checking through reviews to get a "feel" for the types of brands and contents each beauty box service puts in. But in reality there really is no way for me to say which is the best, or which one might be right for you.
Would be great if you could leave in the comments which box (if any) you subscribe to and why you personally picked that box!

  1. I really want to try Feel Unique, and I've had quite a few Glossyboxes but it feels too hit and miss for me, though some of my now go to products have come out of Glossyboxes. I'm really loving JolieBox though, and I think they might be the one for me, but I'll have to wait and see for the next box!

  2. I subbed to the Feel Unique box this month because I've loved everything that's come in the box for other people. Also it's the cheapest haha! I'll probably unsubscribe after this month since I agree with you, it is a bit of a waste of money. I already have a RIDICULOUS amount of stuff, adding all these products would be counterproductive!

  3. I tried the Feel Unique box a month ago but was a little dissapointed by it. I agree, I'd much rather spend £10 on one beauty product I'd really like to try, than 4-5 I'm not fussed for. But, if I've got the money and feel a bit uninspired, I'll definately be trying them again. It's a lovely treat getting something like a beauty box through the post !!

  4. I have been subcribed to Feel Unique, Glossy Box & back at the begining; Boudoir Prive. I cancelled BP after the first box as I knew straight away it wasnt for me. I kept up the other two up until the begining of this month when I unsubbed from Glossybox. My reasons being were that nearly every month I favoured the items from Feel Unique over Glossy Box. This meant a lot of items I got in the GB were left neglected and it would have been silly to continue paying the monthly £13 for the box that just sat on the side full of its contents!
I dont know how long I will stay subbed to Feel Unique as that £10 a month could go towards something else rather than a lucky dip box of products. But for the time being I am happy getting 1 beauty box a month! :-) x

  5. I unsubscribed from Glossy Box for this exact reason! why spend £12.95 on a box of samples, when I already know what brands/products i like and work for my skin! for 2 months subscription fees I could buy myself a new high end foundation! I think i was buying more into the buzz and excitement of having a mystery parcel arrive every week!

Most reviews of the boxes tend to be quite bland too with hundreds of people showing what they got rather than actually reviewing the products, which i think is totally pointless!

  6. This is a very truthful post about beauty boxes! I'm subscribed to Carmine as (like you said) they are more makeup based. I won the first one and liked it, and after receiving the New Cid lipstick I decided to stick with it. So far there hasn't been a box that I haven't liked and I've used all the products. I think that if I didn't enjoy one box, I'd give them 1 more chance, and unsubscribe if I was unimpressed again. It's actually quite a lot, over £100 a year, and I could spend it on more important stuff. At the moment I have a student loan for uni, and if I didn't have that I doubt I would have subscribed.

  7. I loved reading this. I subscribed to Glossybox in December after reading reviews on it and it helped me to find a new favourite mascara but I'm always taking that risk that the January one and the following ones might not be as good. I think it's great that they give you the chance to cancel it if you want to, rather than being contracted to something you might end up regretting :)

  8. This is such a good, honest and helpful review. I unsubscribed from Glossybox in November and have just unsubscribed from Feel Unique, too. Contemplating re-subscribing to Glossybox for a month or so just to see how I go but honestly I think I'm gradually getting over the Beauty Box craze. I would definitely rather have one MAC eyeshadow than the last two beauty boxes I've received.

I'm definitely going to wait until I see what's in the January/February Glossybox and then subscribe (because they then send you the current box, and you can subscribe only if the contents are worth it and are products you'd actually like to try). xx

  9. i subscribed to feel unique for two months, and did really like it as its brands i knew id like and be interested in and could find all in one place if needs be.

ive cancelled as im going back to uni and could probs spend the money on better things and i dont want the hassle of trying to locate the post office if i missed my box! i subscribed to glossybox fr a month but was really disappointed, and no other boxes have really left me yearning for them!

  10. i subscribe to glossy box because personally i believe that it is the most value for money box considering in every both so far theres always been one or more full size product. Also i feel theres always a wide range of hair, makeup and skin care products given :--)
you are my favorite blogger by far!

  11. Great post Lily. I agree with you about it being a waste of money. As another commenter pointed out, you could purchase a high end product that you wanted to buy rather than shell out for a box for a few months. On the other hand, Latest in Beauty have a similar concept but you can choose 3 samples for £1 which I think is a better idea personally so I've just purchased one. (not affiliated with them btw just like the idea) xx

  12. I only signed up to Glossy Box in December as I saw the reviews and knew that I'd love the mascara and nail polish that were in it, and the other samples were really nice too. Going to see how the January box goes to see if I still want to continue on with it or spend the money on a brand that I know I like, but I was pleased with the box I've had.

  13. I am so indecisive and literally cannot choose one beauty box, however, this has helped in the sense that I can go and look at past reviews and see what usually comes in what box! I think it's such a hit and miss type of thing, and unless you can afford 3 or 4, you just have to make-do! x

  14. I'm subscribed to Glossybox and Feelunique but couldnt say which is better, Some months I'm really impressed by the contents but other months just arent suited to me at all. In Feb I'm going to unsubscribe from one, just because in my opinion more than one box is pointless unless you use every single product.

  15. I was subscribed to GlossyBox and I received one of the then Boudoir Prive boxes, but it was when I was breaking it down to spending £120 a year on samples. Especially since out of 6 boxes I did receive there were never any wow products in them.

  16. I subscribe to Feel Unique purely because it's the cheapest but I love the brands and products it allows me to try that I know I definitely wouldn't pick up in a shop or pay full price for. If I could afford essentially £15 a month for a beauty box then I would sway towards Glossybox but for me that's just not affordable. When I think about it is is a bit of a waste of money, and when I don't have my student loan and am scrimping and saving to pay bills and rent, then I definitely will unsubscribe, however if I'm lucky enough to be in a position where I can splash out £10 a month on beauty boxes then I probably would still continue with my subscription. I think it comes down purely to personal preference and situations.

  19. I'm currently not subscribed to any of the beauty boxes, but I really hope to try out GlossyBox. I agree with only choosing one box to subscribe to though, with my lack of money I would only be afford one anyway! Great post :)

  21. I'm have more of an interest in make-up than beauty products so I will look into Carmine :) I subbed to Glossybox, got two months worth of boxes and un-subbed! It was exciting but getting stuff I don't really use and I am not familair with or want to use was a waste to me, but I'm going to definetley look more into Carmine :)

  22. I subscribed to the feel unique beauty box initially due to the price and reviews I had read about both Glossy Box and Jolie Box. I can only afford to subscribe to one box and definitely think the the feel unique box is the best value for money. I really like to mix of products and 9 times out of 10 it really feels like the box is tailored to my needs. I also love that it is really easy to order full size items directly from the website, although I have not yet tested this out! x

  23. Great post, I'm only subbed to glossy box atm but I'm going to see how Jolie box is now it's changed and then maybe I'll switch! x

  24. I'm subscribed to glossy box and there's been like one box that I wasn't impressed with! If I had more money I'd like to subscribe to feel unique or carmine but for now I'm happy with glossy box! I'm excited for this months special box! But I might unsubscribe and try new boxes ?

  26. I did stupidly subscribe to all boxes apart from Carmine and now after loving feelunique and cancelling boudoir prive. I’m know subscribed to jolliebox (bcoz of rebranding) and glossybox. However I prefer make-up and hair samples as my skin is far to temperamental. I soon realised like you their such a waste of money for people who do and can go out and buy make-up. Things they would prefer to pick themselves. X

  27. I have just cancelled my Glossybox to try out Feel Unique, like you say, can't justify both! If I don't love FU (I wasn't overly excited by any GB's) I think I'll cancel once and for all - like you say, I'd probably rather have a new Mac lippy or shadow a month instead! Good post, I like to hear peoples thoughts once in a while. x

  28. You know how if you were to start doing the lottery and then you stop doing it and the next week your numbers come up? That's why I can't unsubscribe from Glossy Box! I absolutely loved the Christmas Box and loved the box with the HD Brows and Stila eye pencils so I do get excited about it each month as HD Brows isnt something I would usually buy because of the price however now its a must have product for me! Of course not all the boxes are to my liking however as you say, thats the gamble I take! xxx

  30. I've been subscribed to FeelUnique since October, after reading about them, them being the cheapest etc but I finally realised that I would rather pay an extra couple of quid for a new MAC shadow or gloss, rather than 5 products I open, smell and place on my top shelf and never, never use.

I'm very picky and I have really sensitive skin - sensitive being if I use a product and my skin doesn't like it, it goes dry then spots appear and it takes ages to get them away - which swayed me towards cancelling my subscription this month.

  31. This post helped me a lot ;). I'm now unsure about all the boxes I subscribed to GlossyBox and Feel Unique and I like them both, maybe I love FeelUnique more. Sometimes the products are pretty good or useless. If I think about it I spend around £250 a year, I could get so many things for this price. For now I need to work out if I still want to get both boxes. xx

  32. I'm trying to decide at the moment which two to keep out of four in Australia. Glossybox recently overtook one of the companies here, I don't think their boxes are as good here as they are in the UK. The saga continues for me anyways, I'm a sucker for surprises and parcels!

  33. I got my first FeelUnique box this month and was a LITTLE disappointed. I know the theme was "post Christmas essentials" but the ones I'd seen previously just seemed a little bit more exciting. I'll probably give it a go for another month.

I unsubscribed from GlossyBox about 3 boxes in as I found myself less interested in the products and price went up anyway. But again, people seem to really love what they got so it's all a matter of personal taste! :)

  34. Iv just recently subbed to GlossyBox and am waiting to receive it! I feel as though im currently behind on reviewing the boxes as Iv known about them for the last year but GlossyBox have recently started shipping to Ireland which is what held me back! Its unfortunate that fell unique and jolie box dont ship to ireland yet as i would love to try there services and compare and contract which would b best for an irish girl seeing as these are predominantly a 'British Thing'!

  36. I initially subscribed to Glossybox, but after a few months of receiving average boxes I subscribed to Feel Unique as well in December. I've cancelled my subscription to Glossybox now as I think Feel Unique is a lot better value for money and filled with products I want to try and I could see myself re-purchasing which Glossybox isn't really. I was going to unsubscribe for both but I love receiving sample boxes in the post! x

  38. i'm so glad somebody did a post like this! i first subscribed to glossybox last year, then unsubscribed then re-subscribed because i really enjoyed reading people's posts on their boxes and wanted to get 'back in the game' (probably not the best phrase to use...). i'm currently really enjoying the boxes i receive and love the excitement between being told the boxes have been sent off and then receiving them. if i could, i really would subscribe to all of them as i think they're so interesting and do provide different brands but at the moment i think if i were to subscribe to another, as well as glossybox, it would be the jolie box :) X

  39. I've had a few really good products from glossybox, but in general, they're so hit and miss, I'm going to start reading bloggers posts, and buy a box as and when a good one comes out.
Obviously there's been a big problem with Carmine this month with them running out of steam cream and giving out old samples, which isn't ideal but i find they're generally the most consistent and a nice mix of make up, skincare and bathing products

  41. Hi Girls!
I have just discovered a new Beauty Box that is just amazing!! Its name is Betrousse (http://www.betrousse.co.uk), it's a french based company.
There's only full-sized products inside, you don't have to subscribe: you buy it only if you like it! Prices are very nice: you get the box for only £19 instead of £130 or £150!!
As they're french, we discover french quality brands.
Have you already try it? I bought already 2 boxes, and i really love them!

  42. I have recently subscribed to beauteco and I am more than happy! 5 products in the box which 3/4 are full sized!! And for £10 +p&p that is a bargain. Box is usually worth 40£ too or more. Have lots of promos for two free gifts etc and customer service is fab. Will definitely keep my subscription going! Such a bargain who can say no to that!
