L'Oreal Rouge Caresse in Dating Coral

L'Oreal Rouge Caresse in Dating Coral: Boots/Superdrug (£7.99)

Around the same time the Revlon Lip Butter hype came out L'Oreal somewhat quietly released their own answer to the hybrid lipstick trend releasing the Rouge Caresse's. Although I did like the Revlon Lip Butters, there was something about them that I didn't like at the same time. L'Oreal Rouge Caresse's feel very light weight, smooth and pigmented. They are a mix of lip balm and lipstick with quite alot of colour but still very sheer. Rouge Caresse's however very build-able so you can get different coverage depending on how much of the product you I apply. The formula actually reminds me of MAC Glaze's, very slippy and glossy but still giving even coverage. They aren't particularly long wearing because they are very balmy, but they are fool proof when applying so you don't need to worry about being precise on reapplication.

Dating Coral is a warm coral with soft orange undertones. In the bullet it looks very reddish coral, but on application it is more orange. I think it looks very pretty on the lips, with one swipe I found it to be too sheer for my pigmented lips. I found I did have to apply it a fair few times to get the colour in the photographs. However it doesn't feel sticky or tacky and the product doesn't build up uncomfortably on the lips.

Personally I prefer these to the Revlon Lip Butters, I don't know why I like these more though. Maybe I just prefer the shades I have in the Rouge Caresses's to the Lip Butters. I do think the products are very similar but I just find the L'Oreal Rouge Caresse's to be more pigmented, more moisturising and have better overall pay off. Im surprised I like these sheerer glossier products at the moment as I've always been a full coverage matte or satin finish kinda girl!

  3. I think the texture of these is a bit nicer than the Lip Butters, more solid whereas the others are more, well, buttery! I have this in Aphrodite Scarlet and I love it! x

  13. I much prefer the caresse's to the Revlon lip butters, I didn't find their shade range appealing at all! Being eyeing up this particular shade for a while, I love coral lipsticks :) x

  26. The shade is lovely on you! I might just have to try these out, the packagaing is definitely alot more glam than the Revlon Lip Butters. I have found them really nice though as my lips tend to dry out so I think they are the kind of lip colours I will go for from now on!

  28. Ah, I wanted to buy that too - I went to the drug store a couple of times but left without buying it. Cause I'm not sure if I wanna spent that much money on a lipstick, since I'm not someone who wears lipstick often. :S

  29. I prefer the Caresse lip colours too but can't decide why. I'm a fan of brighter lipsticks though which is why I sway towards the L'oreal ones. But this colour is really nice and looks really warm on you. I might have to take a look :)
