river island a/w 2012 collection, hitting stores from august onwards
HAI I'll take one of everything in size 10 or shoe size 5 plz! KTHANX xoxo! Seriously how awesome is the River Island Autumn Winter Collection! I don't think I've ever been so in love with a collection of pieces before. I literally can't wait for it to start hitting stores! I can tell that most of my money will be going straight to River Island pockets come the winter!
The collections for A/W are called Downtown, Blogger, Prim, Scandi, Baroque and Futuristic Goth. The collections are full of embellishment, studs, patches of leather, tweed and all sorts of wonderful prints and textures. I've always been a winter girl, I love dressing for the cold rather than the warm. There is something about layers that I find incredibly irresistible. My favourite pieces were the tweed duffle coat with the fur trim, It looked so cosy and warm I wanted to try it on right there and then! There was this gorgeous pink dusty tweedy type jacket with leather panels which was to die for. I adored the studded loafers and the Lita inspired shoes (these are everywhere at AW press days!) I loved all the chunky knitted bobble hats, especially a bright pink one with a massive pom pom. The jewellery was also really lovely as well but I didn't get many snaps of that in the end as I was too busy coo-ing over multicoloured fur trimmed jackets with matching bags!
Although I think the same trends are always done for A/W (luxe grunge, boho traveller inspired, country classics) just like the same trends are always done for S/S (tropical, nautical, boho) I think River Island have put a fun twist on it. The blogger collection sounds interesting as I know a few select bloggers have collaborated with River Island for an accessories line which should be out around the same time. It made me chuckle when I saw that the collection was called Blogger, so weird how the High Street is now being inspired by bloggers rather than the other way around. Although I have noticed in recent years the high street does tend to keep a closer eye on blogger trends than they used to!
Will be very interesting to see if some of the highly decorated garments will make it in to store (I'm looking at you spiked vest!) But for the most part it's a massive two thumbs up and well done for creating such an interesting and varied take on the autumn winter trends!
What are your thoughts on the collection? Yes, or No? Or is it just too soon to be thinking about A/W!

I love so many of these pieces! I prefer Autumn and Winter by far. I love wearing coats and tights and knitwear - I don't want to have to bare all my skin in the summer! x

I always prefer autumn winter to summer stuff, not sure i like these though
ReplyDeleteLiterally head over heels. I know what you mean about the whole "it's the same every season". I always look forward to work in the winter as Topshop get their "gothic" trend in, which is always lovely jewel colour velvets and studs, yum!

I've never been a big River Island person but wow, I love everything! The spiked loafers and the jumper with leather patches look particularly nice :)
ReplyDeleteDressing for winter is always more fun, can't wait for this to hit the shops. Roll on August x
ReplyDeleteI agree, I prefer dressing for A/W, some of these pieces look awesome, especially that cream dress with belt and beading, and the shirts with different material collars x
ReplyDeleteI like what I see! I get what you mean, although the same trends are usually regurgitated, they have certainly offered an interesting twist in each trend.

ReplyDeleteLove the embroidered jacket, reminds me of Balmain!
Really liking the leather/knitwear combos and I agree with you on the huge pom pom, I'm definitely a wooly hat person :)

Hmmm RI used to be my go-to high street brand yet every season they become a tad more outrageous with their styles for my boring simple eye. I can see this being hugely popular but for me personally its a nay but those bags on the other hand are bloomin gorgeous!

This is seriously impressive! It's all wonderful xo
ReplyDeleteI much prefer A/W wardrobes, I like being comfy! x
ReplyDeletePretty much didn't set foot in River Island this winter after working there last summer but I think I will be re-finding my love for them! Some very un-river island bits, obsessed with the studded shoes you've shown and some of the collar details!

A/W is definitely my favourite too, though I do like the season change. I don't like to think about A/W at this time but it is quite nice to see previews

Some gorgeous pieces in the collection, I'm loving anything jewel covered! Plus that white lacy, sparkly dress is so pretty! Can't wait to see the full collection in the shops.

LOVE this collection! Other than the colour palette for AW I think its always less predictable than spring summer, for example every SS without fail florals crop up as do some form of loose/baggy trousers as does the whole boho/hippy trend, not forgetting the so over done nautical thing which I'm so happy I haven't seen anywhere this year!
ReplyDeleteThis collection is amazing, but like you say it will be interesting to see how much of it makes it into the majority of stores and not just the flagship!
particularly love the multicoloured fur collar jacket!
xx
Oh my god. Literally want every single item that you've shown. Guess I'm gonna be poor this AW then haha! xx

ReplyDeleteI'm one of those people that gets bored easily, so by August I'll be craving the cold but come January I just want sun sun sun.
Sorry for the essay lol x

OH MY GOSH I am in love with the silver metallic blazer and the white blouse with pink patterned collar. I've never been one for River Island, I've always associated them with sequins and horrendously bright colours but I have to say I am in love with this collection! xxx
ReplyDeleteI think River Island can be a bit hit and miss sometimes but all of this looks amazing! Can't wait to buy some when it's in store x
