If it 'aint broken…
Botanics have recently rebranded, reformulated and repackaged their products. The old Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover was one of my all time favourite eye makeup removers and would be the one that I'd religiously buy. Enchanted by the pretty repackaged products I went ahead and bought it figuring it to be the same product inside. Wrong. It's completely different, and actually one of the worst Eye Makeup removers I've used. I feel I really have to scrub my eyes to get the makeup off and the once it's removed I have to then wash my face as it leaves a horrible oily residue on the skin. I find it stings my eyes and leaves them irritated and sore. Overall I wouldn't recommend this and if you are a fan of the old one and were thinking of repurchasing DONT! Not worth it at all! I don't normally say Im disappointed with products as I really don't have high expectations for a lot of things. I just don't understand why Boots decided to change this product in such a drastic way, the old formula was brilliant and worked wonders. It was actually gentle on the skin and removed makeup effortlessly!

I was heartbroken at the formula change too!
ReplyDeleteBut I've been using the Johnsons Eye Make Up Remover and it's a good replacement!
I know this seems like I'm plugging my blog, but I've done a review/comparison

You should try it out!xx
Oh no! I knew they were repackaging but I didn't think the formula would change. That's really annoying because I absolutely love the old formula :(
ReplyDeleteI too purchased this and i too felt it was a waste of my money ! It is just horrible and i also purchased the facial wipes and they are the exact same when it comes to removing my mascara.I will not be purchasing anymore items from this range :(
ReplyDeletearghh there's nothing I hate more than when companies rebrand and reformulate! It's almost like they think you'll still buy it with the better packaging when the product is rubbish. When in fact i'd sooner have the most ugly packaging in the world if the product actually works! xx
ReplyDeleteI never really paid much attention to Botanics before they rebranded it but I have noticed the change in this particular product. Such a shame x
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Why change something that was absolutely fine anyway eh? They've changed many of the products that people used to rave about like the cleansing balm!
ReplyDeleteI'm SO glad you did this post! I've almost finished up my old bottle and was looking forward to trying the new one - just ordered a bottle or Bioderma from Le France instead! :-)
ReplyDeleteI bought this after hearing hype about the product before the rebrand. I have to agree it stings my eyes, doesn't remove my makeup and leaves my face oily.

Its so annoying! It does work as a face-make up remover, but it doesn't even budge my mascara!

I hate it when they change products to worse! Defiantly wont buy this now!

Aw that's such a shame. I love the botanics range & really wanted to try this product. I guess not, haha. Thanks for the heads up! xx

They also reformulated the mattifying moisturiser which I used to love, and now I can't use it because the new formula rubs of in little balls on my face, so disappointing! I've also heard that they have reformulated the cleansing balm too and that it's not as good anymore.

I totally agree with you, I have used Botanics products since..well forever, since I have been using their exfoliating face wash it has gone through 3 different packaging changes. I Loved the first one, and loved the second change more, the product and packaging was so much better. Plus they made it so that you could buy one for each skin type, eg. oily rather than just one for all skin types which I loved, and then with their most recent package change come a change in the product itself. They got rid of the individual products and bought in the one for all skin types again...anyway! ramble over, I really think they made a huge mistake in the change, as I have now lost my favourite daily exfoliator!
ReplyDeleteThey did all this the day after I raved about the product on my blog, really hope noone listened to my reccomendation as they will be very disappointed now!

I wanted an eye makeup remover and got this as it was on offer. I completely agree with you! Its greasy, messy and oh boy does it sting if you get it in your eye, which you will because you have to scrub quite hard. Anyone recommend a decent yet cheap eye makeup remover?
ReplyDelete100% has the same problem! I have used the old one for 4 years, never used another. I always bulk buy when they do there 3 for 2 skincare offers too! I was pleased to see the new packaging also, thinking it would be the same thing. So wrong! This new product stings my eyes and doesn't remove my eyeliner. I wake up with a black panda eyes (never happened with the old product) agree with you the old product was so gentle and thorough, but this is horrible and greasy! BRING BACK THE OLD FORMULA BOOTS! I am now cluesless as to what eye make remover works as I havent sampled any others for 4 years! I just want a brilliant cheap one like the Boots Botanics used to be! Any suggestions Lily? :( xxx
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really dilly, but I used to work at Boots and know they appreciate feedback. I have e-mailed them incl this blog post. Just wanted to let you know in case they got in touch?
DeleteThanks

DeleteI have heard a lot of people complain about the change in formulation which is a shame as this is probably one of Boots most popular brands. Having only tried the oil free moisturiser from the original line (which has discontinued since the re-vamp) I don't think I will be venturing into other products from the line purely based on some of the reviews I have seen. I agree with you if its not broke then please don't fix it.

So glad I didn't buy this now! x
ReplyDeleteDamn! Wish I had read this blogpost thus morning as I bought this today. Took my makeup off with it when I got in, seriously unimpressed! It's now 3 hours since I took it off and I still have blurred vision, bloodshot eyes and skin around my eye is irritated, despite washing with water a couple times. Going to take this back, just not on! X
ReplyDeleteOhh no, thats rubbish!! That was my fav eye makeup remover and I've tried a fair few! Lucky i stockpiled a while back and still have two full bottles :) xx

ReplyDeleteAlso gutted that I can't get the old formula anymore. Given the reviews of the new product, I will not be purchasing.
