Topshop Secret Admirer Lipstick: topshop (£8)

Topshop Secret Admirer on paper sounds like a lipstick that is right up my street. Described as a "Warm Nude" I saw it online and though Ch-Ching! It arrived in suitable time, opened it up, so far so good. However once I put it on I was like ARHHGHDGJJJFGHH! Not right for my skin tone. On me it seems to look a bit blue toned, which I don't think it looks in the tube at all. On me I think it looks really purple and milky, which I think could be down the to the hyper pigmentation of my lips. My lips are super pigmented so lighter colours are really hard for me to pull off because of darkness that's already there. Do you get what I mean, however It's just not right on me!

Despite this the lipstick feels smooth, applies well and does last a decent amount of time. I presume the formula is the same as the other Topshop lipsticks as well, but this one feels a lot more tacky on the lips. It could be that Im applying more than I normally would to get full coverage. Overall a nice addition to the Topshop makeup range, but the colour is sadly not for me! I wouldn't discount the lipstick because it doesn't suit me, almost everyones skin tone is different. For example see how it looks on Milly and then how it looks on Jen, totally different each time. Innocent is still my go-to Topshop pink lipstick as it suits me much more & I think it's been recently re-released! However If your more cool toned then this would be one for you!

  1. It looks amazing in the tube but I doubt it'd suit me either with my pigmented lips. Such a shame though, looks like a lovely colour!

  2. I really want to try out some Topshop lipsticks! This looks really nice, but completely different when applied on you - and i find i have the same problem with wearing lighter colours, but i prefer wearing them. Innocent looks so good applied though - i might have to try that one. :-)

  5. I actually think it looks really nice on you! Though it's definately more lilac on you as opposed to the colour of the actual stick. I did a review of this exact colour along with an orangey bright red shade last week if you're at all interested! xx

  6. Such a shame it didn't suit you Lily as you know I love this lipstick! However I think it looks really nice on you - although I can see what you mean about the purpley tones. Looks quite like MAC's Snob on you. I think I need to purchase Innocent lipstick now after re-reading your post. Thanks for the mention Lily xx

  7. It's a lot more "lilac" toned on you than on other people I've seen it on which is so weird!

I think it's not unpleasant but maybe a "pinker" tone would be nicer,

  8. Aw, although you don't like the shade on you, I think you could still pull it off! It annoys me when lipstick look different from what you first see in the tube.I suppose if you're going for a lilac look, then you could probably pull this off but considering my lips are naturally coral in colour (O_O), I don't think this is for me! I really appreciate how you blog about thinks that don't work so much for you, but might work/interest your readers! Thanks for the review xx

P.S. After owning a few Toopshop lipsticks, I still CAN'T get over Topshop makeup packaging-so cute!

  10. Ahh I'm the same, remember the Viva Glam Gaga and Reel sexy? They both looked SO odd on me, as gorgeous as they were in the tube - I seem to remember reel sexy looks awesome on you, or am I making that up!?

It does look TOTALLY different in the tube though, ha! x

  20. I love the TopShop lipsticks with their semi matte formula but almost every time I find that the colour in the tube and especially online is very different to how the colours actually look applied to the lips. I'm always tempted to order them online but I drag my butt down to TopShop to swatch them otherwise I get sorely disappointed!

  22. I've got this lipstick as well. And I feel it applies quite 'patchy' and your lips MUST be exfoliated before using this as its very unforgiving. But a gorgeous color all the same xx

  23. I think this looks pretty on you! I'm a massive fan of Pillow Talk, and i'm so happy they put it in the permanent range so I think I'll have to check this out because I have a feeling I'll love it xxx
