beachy waves?

I've always tried to use surf sprays before but never really understood how to use them. In my head it was as simple as spray your hair and end up with beached waves. Well Im afraid thats never going to happen. Nothing is realistically going to make your hair wavy (if its naturally straight of course) unless you do something do it like add heat. Salt spray can be used to add texture, volume and roughness to the hair. Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray is one of those products I've always wanted to try out but never bought. So when I was offered of course I jumped at the chance.

What I tend to do is wash my hair add my usual post-washing products (normally a hair oil and Bumble and Bumble Texture creme) and then when it's semi dry after blow drying I spray as much as I can be bothered. Then I'll either leave to dry natural or take a diffuser attachment and mess it all up.Surf sprays do dry your hair and scalp out so I would use them in moderation. Apply it sparingly to the mid lengths and ends of your hair rather than all over. I found it irritates my scalp a bit too much if I apply it directly near the root. I love using this too add texture to my fine limp hair which in turns helps give my hair a bit of beachy, bed head volume.

What I would say is that the price is pretty high for what it is, I have got a few other salt spray's but I do generally prefer this one to the others. I don't think you should buy this with the expectation of getting the dream beachy wave we all seem to crave, it's more of a prep product than something thats going to actually make your hair curly

  1. Great review! I think that's the problem , we think in our heads we'll get gorgeous beachy waves from these products! I've used toni and guys saltwater spray but its definitely just an assistant to a styling tool! X

  4. So true..it´s really more a prep spray...gives texture to your hair!! I have very fine hair, so it helps me to keep it in place but it sure doesn´t give me beachy waves...

  5. I've tried salt sprays too and I have never got my head around how to use them properly... either that or they just don't work for my hair.

Nothing can make waves prettier than heat appliances unfortunately! :-(

  8. You're so right, I have thin, super straight hair and used salt sprays a very long time ago and gave up because I didnt get beachy desirable waves! But I might invest in a new one and use it as a prep styling tool and give them a 2nd chance! xx

  9. I use a Lee Stafford sea salt spray which was pretty inexpensive, it smells amazing and it gives a nice amount of texture. Might be worth looking at that one :)

  15. I used to use a similar product, but it dried my hair out a lot so I've just steered clear of them since. It does make your hair look lovely though! xx

  16. I think it's really convenient to be able to buy a beach waves salt spray, I've found a few I really like. However, I find it just as easy to make my own and apply it to my hair. They more or less give my hair some texture, as I have quite wavy hair anyway.

  17. I reviewed this spray not too long ago. I loved the texture it gave my fine hair. I use it quite often to build volume before I curl, tends to make my waves last longer.

  18. I find this is a good product if you apply it to wet hair and then scrunch it as you dry or use a diffuser.. then I genuinely do get beachy waves! My hair is naturally straight. :o)
