Stay the Night & Anti-Bleak: £11.50*
Shades: A Butterfly Moment, Sprung, Anti-Bleak, Pink yet Lavender. Liquid Sand Polishes: Cant Let Go, The Impossible, Stay the Night, Get Your NumberMariah for OPI SS13
To be honest I don't really know anything about Mariah Carey, I couldn't even name you one of her songs, But for SS 2013 OPI are collaborating with her for a series of polishes. This collection includes four "Liquid Sand Lacquers". These use a special technology that means they have a textured finish with a matte and reflective sparkle. The finish is sort of a pebbled finish that lightly shimmers. These are to be worn without topcoats or they would loose their finish. In all honesty I think that sounds really weird and I cant say Im a huge fan of the textured nail look and I especially don't like these sand finishes. But I've not heard of anything like this so it could be fairly unique.
I tried an accent nail in Stay the Night. Frankly Im not sold, I think the finish looks gritty and dry and just doesn't look pretty at all. It just looks weird and I can't put my finger on why! It reminds me of granite kitchen work tops or a nail file. It just looks dull and really really bland! What a confusing polish!
I think half the collection is really suiting to spring summer, especial the nudes and the shimmery peach. Like I said I really don't know anything about Mariah or her personal preferences but I really do think the sand finish nail polishes are very strange and to be don't quite fit with what I'd imagine (The Daily Mail seems to tell me she's a big Diva) she'd like! The polish shades are lovely, simple and pretty and work well together. Especially A Butterfly Moment (a creamy light pink with a hint of brown) and Pink yet Lavender (a clear sparkly polish with holographic pink, lilac and silver particles). But how the Liquid Sand ones fit in I really don't know!?

Beautiful colours! i want!! xx
ReplyDeletelolz mariah carey. i like her silly song "obsessed"--at least i think its called that. "why you so obsessed with me" haha.
ReplyDeletebut i wouldn't try her polish. you have thoughts on the kardashian polish?

Soooo disappointed with this collection! Where are all the glitters? She made a film called Glitter and an album called Rainbow, so why are the polishes so dull?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the swatches though Lily!
i agree, the sand ones look really odd, but the other ones look lovely!
ReplyDeletei don't know a great deal about mariah carey either, but she did sing 'all i want for christmas is you', everyone knows that right?!
i love the peachy coloured one the most, and might even consider buying that one! xx
I love all these new nail trends with different textured finishes, but I'm not totally sure about these. The glitter ones look lovely though xoxo
ReplyDeletethose liquid sand ones look amazing! I love it when they do new types of polishes like the crackle or the magnetic xx

YOU COULDN'T NAME A MARIAH CAREY SONG?! 'All I Want for Christmas' or 'Heartbreaker', surely? I have a slight obsessed with one of her more cheesy lame-o songs called 'Obsessed'!
ReplyDeleteThe liquid sand ones look nice in the picture, it's a shame they look weird in real life! xo.
The 'sand' polish looks so odd, like dirt! Ew! It's a shame because the other polishes look okay x

I don't like the matte finish! Love the other colour though xx
ReplyDeleteThe swatches look a little dull...kind of like Mariah Carey. Yep, I said it. Don't think I'll be rushing to the beauty supply to be buying these.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree. I hate this sandy finish and I hate those "Caviar" nail bead things as well. I think they're so weird, I'd just be itching to scratch it all off.
ReplyDeleteI'm not even keen on the basic matte polishes you can get, unless you have perfect nails and a perfectly steady hand to apply. When things like this get too "fashiony" they can look really messy... same with glitter actually, I LOVE glitter polish but it has to be applied perfectly with a glossy topcoat for me - otherwise it just spoils the effect! So many dodgy applications of nail polish pop up on random blogs with it smudged and all smeared on the skin etc. makes me cringe!
I love the burgundy red colour you've used however... looks so lovely with silver jewellery. Actually I have a similar colour on today - very Autumn! ;-)

another OPI collection, wooo! can't wait to get my hands on these bad boys either! i know you're saying that the liquid sand polishes are weird, but the swatch you've done on your accent nail does look quite cool. i will admit it's very bland but i'm really intrigued as to what it's like in real life. the colours are gorgeous as well, but do remind me very much of autumn/winter... X

Yuck, I definitely don't like the look of that accent color... looks like dried up sand and I can't imagine it would feel to good against your skin if you scratched too hard or something :(

I quite like look of the liquid sand polishes! I think they add something different and abit of texture, especially on an accent nail. Love the combo on your nails! Do you know where they are selling the mariah range in the UK?
