Naked Basics's is a predominantly matte collection of 6 shades ranging from a soft champagne shimmer, a matte brown and a jet black. As someone who rarely wears matte shadows I sort of knew off the bat this kit wasn't going to be me. I have tried this as lid shadows, but they just look muddy and dull and don't compliment my skin tone. Although I have been using Faint for my brows and then Venus a little bit under my brow bone for a bit of a highlight. In all I just find it so boring and uninspiring, I cant think of anything creative or pretty I could do with this. All the colours are so pale as well, I really don't think anyone needs three super pale shades which would barely show on some skin tones! Overall none of the colours scream out "APPLY ME LILY!" Saying that the colours are smooth pigmented and creamy, They apply well and have good longevity. Which is exactly what I'd expect from Urban Decay, just the blandness of this "basics pallete"just doesn't compliment what is usually such an inspiring and creative brand.
Honestly, I find this palette super snoozy and definitely not my taste. Although I could have told you that from the start (I did). The colours are ok but so basic to the point I just don't think I'd get any use out of it at all. While I think it is nice to have those key matte colours but its nothing that cant be replicated within the other Naked Palettes or other brands.
I personally feel Urban Decay need to make something in between the super shimmer of the Naked 1 and the Naked 2 and the blandness of the Naked Basics. They could also do with creating a warmer toned palette as the colours are just so cool toned (for me) and won't suit all skin tones. I find most of them hard to wear as they just don't compliment my skin tone in the slightest. While it's a safe offering from Urban Decay I can see how it can be appealing to some people… however I could have just passed this without even giving it a second thought.

I am completely with you on this one. There is nothing about this palette that appeals to me!

I didn't understand the hype around this palette! I just think UD ran out of ideas....
ReplyDeleteI reviewed this on my blog yesterday but I loved it! It's all based on personal preference though xx

p.s if you haven't already I'm currently hosting a giveaway for reaching 500 followers so you could be in with winning goodies like Laura mercier, lush etc. :)
I've love to try this out, although I'm really not sure I'd suit matte colours either, and the three light are definitely too similar. xo
ReplyDeleteThis palette looks amazing!! I definitely need to pick one up!! :) ♥

lol
DeleteI love the first Naked palette but find this one so boring... the first 4 colours look so similar. I do like the compact size though and would love to see a similar sized palette from UD with a mix of neutrals but with maybe a hint of colour, a mini Book of Shadows I guess! x
ReplyDeleteI think this would be a good addition if you had the first Naked palette as there aren't many matte shadows in there.. alone.. not so great! x

I cannot understand the hype around this palette either for the exact same reasons!! I'm fairly positive most of the shades wouldn't even show up on my skin color :/

The 4 first colors are almost the same, is too bad. I prefer not bought this palette !
ReplyDeleteShame you didn't like this Lily, I quite like the concept but I feel there's too many pale creamy shades, they needed something a bit warmer between those four whiteish shades and the brown and dark black! I'm still tempted to try it though, I like the fact they're matte! :)

It's a shame you didn't like this, I love matte/pale shades so I'm still questioning why I don't own it yet!

I agree - I wouldn't purchase this. It's so bland! x
ReplyDeleteI really want to try the other two palettes, but this one seems a little chalky in the swatches that everyone does of it xxx
ReplyDeletehttp://unstitchedd.blogspot.co.uk
I don't even own the other Naked palettes. I definitely won't be purchasing this!
ReplyDeleteNice, honest review.
ReplyDeleteI've got the Naked 1 palette and I love it but I'm not tempted at all by the basics one. The shades are just too similar and for me it doesn't have that 'wow' factor.

See i think i'd prefer this as i don't really like much colour on my eyes
ReplyDeleteSo this would help my plain simple look

Love my naked palette, can't go wrong with UD eyeshadows

I think the only two I like are faint and crave. The rest look a little too light? However, I suppose for a first neutrals palette, this is a lot more affordable than building up a custom MAC one

you have no idea how bad i want this!

Like the name it has very basic colours and most of the colours are very similar x

The colours all look too similar, good quality stuff though xx

I find this so snoozy too!

Can you post it to me please haha :) Just goes to show how personal makeup is, one person can love it and the next hate it and it definitely depends a lot on your skin tone. I'm pretty happy with my Naked 1 Palette so don't think I'll be splashing out.
ReplyDeleteThe Life of Emily-Alice
Agree with you on how bland the palette is. Personally, this wouldn't be the palette for me either. I think its quite dull and the three first shades are too similar. xx
ReplyDeleteIt is sad, as I really want to like this pallette. The idea of lovely, creamy neutrals is appealing, but the first four, as others have said, are almost identicle.

I caved and bought this because it seemed like a really good deal for £20. I see what you mean about it being potentially bland, but I'm not a huge eyeshadow person so these are perfect for me, subtle but they really make my eyes pop. Probably a good palette for the eyeshadow shy people like me

I've been having thought about getting this for the longest time, but I agree with you, aside from the black and dark brown the colours are just way too similar and light. I don't mind the concept of a matte palette, but I think they need more range in colours.. there are so many other shades of browns they could have chosen x

I love this palette, better than the original naked palettes in my opinion :)
ReplyDeleteabrunettesbeautyblog.blogspot.com
I feel the same, I don't get the hype of any of the palettes there's so so much fallout and this one seems bland to me! x

I love Matte eye shadows, I need to get this palette ..
ReplyDeleteShame you didn't like it!

I'm waiting for the Naked Flushed to come out, 'cause I like you thought this one was a bit boring and not really worth it. There's like a thousand similar palettes just as good out there.
ReplyDeleteIt's not for everyone but I really enjoy my palette. I've used it almost every day since I got it with Foxy & Venus being my most used colors. And I love how they've reformulated the shadows so they feel super smooth and velvety xx
ReplyDeleteI really wish I could get my hand on the urban decays pallets, they look so lovely and this one I especially love!<3 xo

I'm holding a 'giveaway' for new blogs to be discovered more!
I really want to try out the Naked palette one !!! I love neutral colors for the eyes!

Is it just me or are the first 3 colours basically the same? hahaha I really want to try this as I am very pale and think it would be a good 'basic' palette to have, although I totally agree that, for £20, it is waayyy too bland! What would you suggest as a good wide-ranging neutral palette? xxx
ReplyDeletewww.justoliviahere.blogspot.com
I absolutely swear by my naked and naked 2 palette, I think the colours really compliment my skin tone but this pallette just seems stupid. The colours just seem to be the same and I think people would much rather spend another £16 paying for amazing shades that will last a lifetime. X
