beauty confessions 2

beauty confessions review swatch photo

Mascara Blobs: I cant apply Mascara, I never have been able to do it properly. I literally blob it on no matter what mascara I use high end to low end. I don't often review Mascaras on the blog because of this and when I do I generally get crappy comments about the state of my lashes anyway! I think in the life of this blog I've probably reviewed and shown mascara on my eyes about three times! It's also worth noting you'll probably notice now that in most of my photos of my eye's close up they'll always be dots or bits missing. I just haven't mastered the art of doing it, I don't know what I'm doing wrong or why I cant handle the most basic of beauty task's I just struggle! As my eyes are also super sensitive and I find that I'll often pick mascara off or it wear's off on the outer corners as that tends to get irritated very quickly!

Daily Face: I wear makeup everyday, I hate that I have to apologise or to be made to feel bad about myself because I do. I don't hate the way I look without makeup, I don't use it as a mask but I don't feel like me without my slick of liner and a little bit of a filled in brow. I will leave the house and pop to the shop makeup less, I don't feel ashamed of my naked face. I just prefer the way I look with it. I wrote a post a while ago on why I wear makeup and I think I put it a lot more eloquently than I'm writing here! But I will wear makeup almost 7/7 days a week. I generally apply in the morning and have it removed by 7pm with my skincare routine (which I've worked on since I made my last Beauty Confessions post!) getting started!

Allergies: I'm allergic to SOMETHING in some foundations and I cant for the life of me work out what it is. It's got to the point now where I actually don't use anything different because I don't want to break out. I do think that it is probably silicones. I went through a period of trying literally so many foundations and all were breaking me out. I then bought Laura Mercier Silk Creme and have been loyal to it ever since, although I do flutter with the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint. The foundation that broke me out the most ever was the YSL Touché Elate Foundation. I really wanted to love it and I did love it, I even bought a full size of it. However as soon as I realised that it was foundations what was breaking me out I stopped using it. I had terrible cystic acne and my skin was just so sore and red. I wish I could pinpoint exactly what ingredient it is so I can avoid it in the future!

Embrace Messy Hair: I hate flat my hair, I know this is completely obvious to some because again like mascara it's one of those things people complain about. The idea of having my hair flat to my head actually makes me cringe. Personally I think that looks super smooth straight hair awful and just so… weird? This is my personal opinion so please don't get offended by it! I don't know if it's a cultural thing but I'm always told my hair looks dirty, when it's not dirty at all I just used stuff in it to make it look like it is! Personally I'm just not into the sleek, perfect kinda hair do's! I'm all for a bit of bedhead, roughed up, rock n' roll style look! I tend to only really brush my hair after I've washed it to get all the knots out with my Michel Mercier Detangling brush and then leave it the next day and brush it again when I was my hair next (I wash my hair every other day!)

Nail Polish Addict: I think I probably have around 300+ nail polishes in my current collection. I'm actually starting to feel a bit guilty about them every single time I buy a new one. I probably have dupes for all the polishes and even when I think I have found a new unique one I probably own something so similar already! At the moment I'm especially in love with glitter nail polishes, I think I have around 70 of them currently with my favourites being OPI Rainbow Connection, NYC Lights Camera Action and Models Own Ibiza Mix. I'm getting more and more into indie nail polish brands at the moment as they are filling my need for unique and different glitters that just aren't on the mainstream market!

Humble Beginnings: I wasn't very interested in beauty until I started reading blogs in around 2006. I liked makeup and wore it a lot, but I tended to buy whatever I thought looked good or what I'd seen in  magazines. I remember I started watching videos on Youtube including xSparkage and Petrilude. I proceeded to go on a spending binge on makeup. I remember placing my first MAC order and getting the 187 stippling brush and I think I also ordered some primer too. I remember buying the Chanel Mat Lumiere based off Pixiwoo's first videos and falling in love with it. Since then it's just escalated. I cant even begin to imagine how much I've spent on beauty and makeup products I've purchased after seeing online recommendations for it. I'm very very VERY easily influenced by other bloggers and what other people talk about. Most of the time I'm in a shop or at a counter I go "oh, I saw so and so talk about this" "I think this is what so and so uses"! It's addictive this online beauty review thing!

  1. That is SO many nail varnishes! :P
    But it's very lovely,
I've only just really got into make-up so that makes me feel a lot better, there is hope for me to grasp it all yet!
I wore a lot of make up but owned like 2 make up brushes!

  2. I completely agree about the wearing makeup every day thing, I always wear makeup! It kind of annoys me as well when people criticise me for how much I spend on it when it's my money and my choice. The thing I'm rubbish at it applying false lashes - I've never mastered it! It's nice to know that even the big beauty bloggers aren't perfect when it comes to beauty :)

  3. I'm the exact same with my hair, my mum is always telling me it's a state and just looks untidy but it just doesn't look right if it's not my curly bedhead! xx

  4. I'm like you when buying stuff, if I see something I'm more likely to buy it if I've seen a blogger review it first haha :)

  9. I wouldn't say you're awful at mascara, there are many worse with classic 'spider eyes' haha. That's so annoying about being allergic to foundations! I agree with you that messy hair looks so much better than flat hair, my hair's naturally big and voluminous which is helpful.

  11. I tend to agree with you about the flat hair thing, but it's kind of grown on me.

  12. I think I'm the same as you when it comes to being allergic to something YSL touche éclat completely ruined my skin for a good six months and I refuse to touch it ever again it's best to stick to what works for you. I love my eyeliner daily and filled in brows and poofy hair is the way forward! xx

  14. 100% know what you mean about flat hair! having it plastered genuinely puts me in a bad mood. my friend tries to tell me that she finds sleek hair lovely, but just not buying it. large and in charge all the way.

  24. You're not on your own, I can't apply mascara for the life of me, I'll be just about finished and I'll get a lump on the side of my nose or up near my eyebrow. I've been putting it on for a good 8 year now, you'd think I'd learn not to smash the brush into the side of my face...or get it in my hair!

  25. The last thing you wrote is literally what I do! I watch hours of youtube monthly favorites, drug store vs. high end, tutorials and just all the beauty videos taking in the good and the bad while writing down little notes about products I want to try or NOT to try because a blogger said it was amazing or horrible. I love hearing others opinions of beauty products because I have little knowledge on the subject. It was way different from a celebrity who is endorsed by a product bloggers give you the good with the bad which I love.

  30. Great post, always wear makup as well but It's just part of my morning routine the same way brushing my teeth and eating breakfast are, I do wish I could not brush my hair but if I leave it to it's own devices it goes a bit mental, Definitely with you on the nail polish hoarding thing, I have more than I'll ever be able to use but they're all just so pretty :)

  35. I totally agree with the hair thing, unfortunately mine is naturally fine and poker straight. I hate it when it sticks to my head and has no volume (how it is if I leave it!) After I wash it I shove a tonne of dry shampoo in it and don't brush it again until I wash it next either!

I hate preened hair, especially on nights out when girls have those perfect ringlet curls which screams 'Ive taken ages to get ready'

    Bed head rocks!

  38. By seeing how you love nail polishes too, I think you should check out theses brands if you don't already know them ! Nfu Oh, Ozotic, Enchanted Polish, Picture Polish or you should go on this little boutique http://pshiiit-boutique.com/ if you want to find out new brands, some of them aren't really known and are sooooo great !

  39. I wear make-up every day too. I never leave the house without it, and even when I know I will be staying in all day I still wear make-up. Like you, I just feel a lot better with make-up on. But people are easy to judge, it's true. For some reason the fact that I (we) wear make-up daily makes us shallow/insecure/dumb/[insertnegativeadjective] in their eyes. As if it somehow makes us completely self-absorbed.

  40. Oh mate, i wear more make up than a drag queen on a daily basis just to get 'the natural' look. Never feel bad about that, i love it. Its like starting with a blank canvas everyday and creating something your happy with and im 33. Ill be a shameless 88 year old with penciled in eyebrows and bright lips.xx

  41. I never break out with foundations and the YSL Touché Éclat foundation made me break out so bad. I loved it and also bought the full sized bottle, and was so gutted when I realised that was the cause. It was so bad on my cheek people kept asking if it was an insect bite, awful. I too haven't found out what the ingredient was that made me break out but if you do please post it, it would be a big help!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I had the exact same thing happen with YSL foundation. And I have never, ever had any reaction to anything else... Hence why I kept on using it for at least 2 months (bought 2 full size bottles in different shades to mix the perfect one) thinking I've just come up with adult acne or something.
Then I went on a long weekend away, forgot the foundation home, used just a BB cream for the time and _immediately_ my acne was gone.
As I do still completely adore the finish it gives, I tempted faith and decided "one night wont hurt" on NYE and went on to slap it on (and loved the look!) but lo and behold, next day the horrible cystic acne was back again...

So... anyone want 2 almost full YSL foundation bottles?
I clearly won't have any use for them at all. Ever. Snif.

  43. Nice blog! I don't like people criticizing my likes and dislikes so don't worry just ignore people with negative comments! Just give a good smile!

  44. Hi Lily,
I have exactly the same problem with most of the foundations. I break out instantly and only Laura Mercier and Juer work fine for me. I narrowed it down to one ingredient that was in all foundations that I have ever tried that broke me out. It is name is OCTINOXATE. From my research it is a chemical sun screen or SPF which is included in most of the foundations also in powders and creams. The tricky part is that it has many other names:
    Synoym(s): ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE, 2-ETHYLHEXYL P-METHOXYCINNAMATE; 2-ETHYLHEXYL 4-METHOXYCINNAMATE; 2-ETHYLHEXYL ESTER P-METHOXYCINNAMIC ACID; 2-ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE; 2-ETHYLHEXYL P-METHOXYCINNAMATE; 2-ETHYLHEXYL-4-METHOXYCINNAMATE; AI3-05710; CCRIS 6200; EINECS 226-775-7; ESCALOL; NEO HELIOPAN

All the foundations that broke me out included one of those ingredients. So the only option for me is to go for non SPF foundations like Laura Mercier Silk Cream, or to use creams/BB creams with physical SPF, ingredients such as Zinc Oxide (the best) or Titanium Dioxide. But there are not so many available in the market, also some of the foundations that are marketed with no SPF include that ingredient, example Armany Luminous Silk. Another good products with SPF that don't break me out are Origins Vitazing, and Ren Photoactive Sun Veil.

Hope it was helpful to someone !
