ace of base: laura mercier

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation
Laura Mercier Primer In Radiance

I thought today I'd write a renewed ode to my favourite base ever. The funny thing about this is that I used to hate Laura Mercier Silk Creme. I remember buying it off the recommendation of Juicystar07 (IKR, those were the days) years and years ago. But I just couldn't get it to work for me. I felt it looked cakey and dry and just didn't sit nicely on my skin. I found it hard to blend and felt like it just wasn't that good overall. None the less I repurchased it last year after it experienced a bit of blog hype and I haven't looked back since. I don't throw Holy Grail around much, but this is just... the one.

I used to wear the shade Cashew Beige, and worn Medium Ivory and Sand Beige but have been more recently matched with Cream Ivory. Which is a HUGE colour jump, I was a little shocked when I was matched to that shade as it really is so different from the one I'd used before. I find a little goes a long way, but I can use a small amount on lazy no makeup makeup days to give even coverage, then on the days I need a little more I can layer for full coverage. The finish is matte while also have a natural satin like glow. It's hard to describe, but it's sort of like "glow from within" rather than dewy. I have oily, sensitive spot prone skin and I've never broken out using this foundation. I can often breakout with foundations as I'm allergic to a lot of different ingredients that are pumped into foundations. This one has never done anything bad to my skin and anytime I get a breakout from a foundation I go back to this as I know it's so fail safe on me.

I also want to give one big nod to the Laura Mercier Primer in Radiance. It's just a stunning pink pearly primer which evens out the skin tone all the whole it perks up and illuminates the face. I recently caved and bought the full size of this after going through a mini version I got in a gift set. I love how it even's out my skin tone and brings the brightness to the face. I sometimes wear it on its own as a base when I do wear no makeup as I just feel it gives it an extra lil' something.

Have you tried this before?

  4. i haven't actually ever tried anything from laura mercier before but i've always wanted to and i think this post will give me a good old kick in the right direction! the foundation sounds absolutely lovely and looks so flawless on you. i have the same type of skin as you (oily, combination, blemish prone) and so i think this would be perfect for me! now to just go and get matched (the amount of times i just pick up the one i think suits me and make do with a completely wrong coloured foundation...). the primer sounds wonderful too and i think it would be a great starting point for someone who's never tried a primer before. it sounds like it's great for when you don't really want to wear that much make up but would like that little bit of coverage! i think these will most definitely be going on my christmas wish list! :) X

    1. I really felt like I had to comment. I never tried liquid before and last month I was colour matched and I have pink undertones in my skin so it is REALLY hard to find a foundation that doesn't make me look yellow or orange. I was amazed when I the lady at the Laura Mercier counter put the foundation on my skin and I was in shock! My skin never looked so ... pretty! I highly recommend getting colour matched it's so worth it! xx

  11. Hello :)

It's funny cause I bought the Silk Cream foundation 3 days ago, and I had exactly the same thought about it, I found it too matte, too caky, too powdery finish on my skin!
But, I will try it again and again, I am sure it's a very good one, just need to fing the right way to apply it!

Do you apply it with a sponge as it's recommended? Thanks!

  14. I currently have the tinted moisturiser and I really want this next! I really want to try the primer aswell but I don't want to spend all that money at once. The moisturiser though is really top notch, I still use my own underneath but overall it's really good.

  20. You look gorgeous Lily! I want to try the foundation, but I'm worried the coverage won't be enough to how I like it? Also, do you know of any amazing skincare products that will get rid of acne/pores on the cheeks/by the sides of the nose?

  27. Love love love both of these products. I could go on for days! I never used liquid EVER and was loyal to BareMinerals for over 8 years. I went out last month and took the plunge with the Laura Mercier Creme Silk Foundation. I was always scared to try liquid as I thought I would look orange or it wouldn't look natural on me considering I have pink undertones in my skin. When I was colour matched I literally could not believe how great it looked on me. I have insanely oily skin as well and I would be lying if I said I didn't get oily all day but this helps and I love the primer in radiance. Sorry to go on haha I just REALLY love this product and never thought I would. Love your review and your blog is amazing! xxx

  31. I bought silk creme after seeing loads of amazing reviews on it, and it looked really good at the counter when the girl put it on my face. But I just can't get it to look right when I put it on myself, it feels cakey and strange on my skin like you say it used to feel for you. I think I need to figure out how to love it, because everyone else seems to! :) xx
