this or that: eye primers

Urban Decay Primer Potion too Faced Shadow Insurance review swatch photo

Urban Decay Primer Potion* vs Too Faced Shadow Insurance*

These two products are seriously iconic within the beauty blogging world with people being in either camp UDPP or TFSI. For me? Im personally not 100% sold on eye primers. Most of the time I don't feel I really need it and prefer to opt for cream shadows rather than using a specifically defined primer. As I recently was sent the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer and I thought I'd put it up against the Urban Decay Primer Potion and try and solve the biggest beauty question of the blogging age: Too Faced Shadow Insurance or Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Both products come in a tube style packaging and apply as a neutral creamy base on the lids. I primed one lid with the Urban Decay Primer Potion and the other Too Faced Shadow Insurance to give it an event trial. Both keep shadow in place for hours, help the shadow go on smoother eyeshadows and make colours look more vibrant. I checked back at the end of the day and they looked exactly the same!   Colour was still there, minimal creasing throughout the day and I found shadow blended effortlessly onto the lid. I also liked that they both neutralised my very veiny, red lids!

That all I said I really genuinely I think they are both as good as each other. I think it's just down to personal preference which you personally prefer I think! Especially since Urban Decay Primer Potion was repackaged into a squeeze tube last year, which probably would have swayed me slightly!

  6. My favourite is definitely Too Faced Shadow Insurance, I've used it everyday for like 4 years now! I used to use the Urban Decay back in the day when it was in the annoying genie bottle packaging but all of a sudden it started creasing on me so I made the switch to TFSI and haven't looked back since! x

  7. I agree, I always just go for a cream eyeshadow underneath if I want my eyeshadow to stay put. Works fine!

  8. I have the UD one as part of a Christmas present and use it occasionally, at least now I know that I don't need to purchase the TF one as well if they're so similar, but would when i run out of UD!

  10. I don't like the UD one. Doesn't spread on me well, creases, makes my shadows dull, hard to blend... no, thank you. TFSI all the way.

  11. I just find both of these eyeshadow primers far too expensive to really consider buying them. £15 for the UD one is the same as a MAC lipstick and I'd prefer one of those any day. I have bought a cheap (£1.50) version from e.l.f and that works like a treat and it does what it says on the tin. I just don't think of eyeshadow primer as a worthy investment, it just seems like another thing the beauty industry tries to trick us into thinking we need.

  13. I've always favoured UDs primer, only because I cannot find a fault with it. So why bother changing!

  15. i've only ever used the urban decay primer potion and whilst i think it's a great product to have, sometimes i just don't see the need for it. i personally find that my eyeshadow stays on just fine even without a primer. however, after reading this post and having a think about it, it is much easier to blend with the primer underneath and the colours are actually much more vibrant with it. unfortunately my primer potion has run out now and i wasn't going to repurchase it but i may have to now i realise how useful it is (and maybe get the too faced shadow insurance too to put them to the test!) :) X

  16. I'm not sold on eye primers either. I get why, but the two times I've tried its been pointless and made my eye sticky more than anything!

  17. I was really disappointed when I tried Urban Decay's primer potion. I think my eyelids are probably drier than normal people's so I really don't think that it's an essential for me anyways.
Great post though, I always wondered if there was a massive difference.

  18. Never tried Two Faced but I love Urban Decay, I have the old style packaging though which is a pain to store/get the product out of.
