4 reasons to cut your hair short

review swatch photo

On the spur of the moment, a few weeks ago I decided to go get my hair drastically chopped. I've had long hair for as long as I can remember so getting it snipped was a very strange experience for me. I opted for a longish blunt cut bob as I thought it would be very chic, get rid of all my dead ends and switch my look up a bit. I'm so happy with the results but initially I was very concerned about getting it cut so different from my usual style. All it took was a tiny bit of courage. It's such a change if you are used to having long hair. Come on girls, Hands up - How many of us hide behind our long locks? We use it like a safety net. Today Im going to share with you four reasons why you should cut your hair short...

Fresh to Death

So many people have commented on how "fresh" I look since getting my hair snipped. Long hair is all well and good, Don't get me wrong. But I've had my hair long for as long as I can remember, even as a child. I then came to realise that I let my hair define me too much. Ombre hair was my thing for ages, and I've barely changed my hair cut since 2005. I've received so much positive feedback on my hair I felt like my head was going to explode with all the compliments. People say its really refreshed my whole look and I'm pretty chuffed with that.

Hair Therapy

I know its silly but drastically changing your hair can really change the way you feel. Hair cuts are really cathartic, and you know that ol' saying that girls always change their hair after a breakup. Yeah its superficial but switching things up can do wonders for your confidence and make you feel like a whole new woman. It's liberating in a way to go for something so different from what you are used to.

Time Saver

I save so much time styling my hair now that my hair is short. It used to take me anything from 30 mins to an hour to wash, dry and style my hair. Post chop I can get it all done in less than 20 minutes. I use way less product and my drying time is literally a 1/3rd of what it used to be. So good for anyone who hates to spend ages drying their hair!

Because YOLO*

Is there a better reason to chop your hair off other than you only live once? Well probably yes but still...  Hair grows back. Albeit a bit slower than you might like but sooner or later its going to grow back. How will you know if short hair doesn't suit you unless you try it once! Experiment and try something new, you might feel more you with a new hair do than you did before! Gwan... be brave!
Would you consider cutting your hair short?

  1. I've been seriously considering getting my hair chopped to your length! I feel like it needs it to get rid of all the crappy hair so that I can start fresh on a new hair care routine :)

  2. I cut my hair shorter a couple of months back and I find it's harder to style because it's wavy/curly! Saves time and arm ache on washing though x

  3. I think Coco Chanel said that when a woman cuts her hair she changes her life. I agree with this whole heartedly and I've gone from super long to pixie and everything in between. :(

  7. I would try, but I have very wavy hair & it needs the weight to curl nicely - trust me, it doesn't look good! Xx

  10. *raises hand* yep! I am a hide-behind-my-locks girl, but no more! I have an appointment in an hour to get it chopped and although I'm nervous I'm really looking forward to it. I've had long hair most of my life too and it's definitely time for a change! I can't wait to have hair I can actually do something with rather than just straightening it because it's too long/heavy to do anything else.

  11. You are extremely lucky to be able to pull off long AND short hair. Right now I'm trying to grow mine because i've had shoulder length hair for years and its driving me crazy. I considered going short a few times but I have a round head and I feel that short hair would just accentuate that? So long it is!
I actually prefer you with short hair I think, it gives you a real edge and accentuates your features a lot more :) xx

  13. I agree with every single reason! I had a bob when I was younger and up until my 22ns birthday I was growing out my hair and it was past my boobs so chopping it all off was a bit scary but I feel so much fresher with short hair like you said! I think it's also a bit edgier. My hair isn't naturally as straight as yours, it tends to be wavy so I'm not sure if me going shorter would work but I think I'm going to try it. Getting a drastic hair cut is so freeing, the whole 'new woman' thing is so true! I love your hair and I think it suits you and your personality perfectly!

  14. i've been considering cutting my hair short for like 3 years now, and like you i've had the same haircut for yeeeears and yeeeears. My long hair is my security blanket but I feel like I need a change! hair is just.. hair right? it'll grow back xxx

  15. I actually think styling would take me longer! Maybe because (I think) my hair 'flows' better when longer, and so it is just flowy long hair, while when it's short it just looks messy and I need to straighten some of the strands.. also, shorter hair makes women look older?! (can be both positive and negative haha)

  16. I have long hair and love long hair....but the condition has to be good otherwise what's the point!?! I guess it boils down to what suits you.......You are lucky you suit both......but some people (I include myself in this) only suit long hair, I learn that lesson the hard way!!

  20. I cut my hair short a while back, now it's all grown out and horrible. Definitely considering cutting it short again!

  23. Completely and whole heartedly agree with all the above.
A hair style deffo changes the mind frame and this reflects in clothing style/likes as well. Look at Miley Cyrus. She said herself that she had her hair cut and her new 'look' just evolved with it..
I think you look great, as I've already said. it's a mature cut and I think over the year, if you keep it short, you'll find your style 'mature'/change with it. :)

I've always had short hair so having a longer hair now it's something I really wanted. I will probably cut it short one day, but for now I'm enjoying it the way it is (:

  39. i think this is fine in the moment...but anyone i have ever known who has cut their hair short resorts to wearing extensions within 3 months of cutting it..i think its in a girls nature to want long luxurious locks. i've had long hair for about 10 years now and i dont think i'll ever be at that stage where i want short hair. I had it when i was younger and i never loved it as much as long!

  49. i agree that cutting your hair is ridiculously liberating and can make you feel like a completely different person. I chopped all mine off about 4 years and have since grown it out long again but it feels much nicer are healthier than it ever did before and I really felt like I had a fresh start. Getting rid of dead ends stands for more than just your hair cut, it is a complete new start.

  52. I had really long hair that varied between boob length and waist length for over 10 years. When I was made redundant I had a real crisis of image and suddenly just wanted it all gone, in fact if I could have found some scissors in my boyfriends house I've no doubt I'd had just chopped it off myself there and then. It's now shoulder length and I've also dyed it dark brown/almost black (I was naturally blond) and I love it. Although my boyfriend and mum often try and convince me that I need to go back to my natural blond!

  58. Honestly... no. 2 years ago I cut kind of short, it was long on the front and very short on the back. At the beginning I like it, but like my hair is reall y curly, I always had to straight my hair, and if I didn't, I looked pretty much like nothing... And when your hair is short you can do nothing, like NOTHING! No braids, no ponytails, no buns... and I love styling my hair too much for cutting them. Now my hair is long but not too long, and I love them! xx
