makeup tips for glasses

BEAUTY TIPS FOR GLASSES

So I joined the full time glasses wearing club late last year. I've worn glasses on and off for the past 10 years - mainly for reading and driving but since I've had to commit to specs on a regular basis. I've had to adapt my makeup a bit. Glasses are often a bit in your face, especially mine as they are quite thick and black. They are the thing people notice first when looking at your face as I don't want to hide behind the glasses. I found that if I wanted to make my makeup the focus, I had to adapt my makeup look slightly, Here are my findings...

Statement Lip:

I love going all out on my lips whenever I've got my glasses on. Try a shade that packs just enough punch to contrast with your frames. On me I like red lips because with my frames, it gives that sort of old school pin-up come rockabilly vibe. I also really like bright pink lips with my glasses, to give a cheeky pop of neon. I feel like because my eyes are so framed adding a pop of colour to the face makes such a difference.

Bold Brows:

I'm blessed with a strong brow, but I've noticed that I need to make sure my brows are tidy and well groomed. Although brows can also be often hidden by frames, It's important to keep them looking sharp and bold, despite being partially obscured. You don't need to make them a statement but keeping them from getting lost is a must.

Curl Up:

Lashings of mascara and use a lash curler to curl them up to the sky. Behind the lenses, its really easy for lashes to get lost so going heavy on mascara is a must! Unless you have super long lashes, it's not that likely you're eyelashes are going to bash against your glasses so don't worry too much about that. I often see glasses wearers talk about wearing less mascara, but I find its made no difference to my glasses and they don't smudge the lens Don't forget the bottom lashes either!

Beat the Bags:

Glasses can often amplify under eye circles so using a heavy duty concealer or a highlighting one to reflect light is a great cheat sheet. Perfect for keeping your eyes looking fresh and awake without any unsightly bags or darkness.
Do you have any tips for glasses wearers?

  4. Totally with you on more mascara! I have quite light lilac frames but even with those I need to amp up the eye make up to not get lose behind the lense!

  5. Great tips! Especially agree with the bold brows - glasses are so prominent, you need to amp up your brows or it'll be like you didn't fill them in to begin with.

  6. As a newbie to the glasses club this is really useful, thanks :)
One question though; do you have any tips for reducing the marks left by glasses on the nose? It drives me insane.

  10. I tend to make sure I don't wear make up on the bridge or where my glasses rest. It isn't needed and avoids glasses getting covered. :)

  16. I usually wear contact lenses on a daily basis but i find myself reaching for my glasses when my eyes are dry or irritated therefore this post really gave me some tips into how i do my make-up. I think the most important thing is to cover dark circles too, because i find that the lens sometimes do emphasize the bags and the deeper colour~

Thank you for sharing, your lip colour is amazing <3
    Have a lovely day!

  17. Where are these glasses from? They are a lovely shape!

  18. I do have glasses but I barely wear them, mostly because my eyelashes touch the glasses and it is pretty annoying. I wear eyeliner instead of mascara if I put my glasses on outside the house, since mascara just makes them dirty

  19. Wonderful tips Lily :) I really need to get a hang of under eye concealer, as at 23 years old they are well and truly here to stay...

  20. I agree that a strong lip looks awesome with glasses and I love that shade. I wish I had nice thick brows, if only I'd known I'd regret all the plucking as a teenager!

  24. I wear similar frames myself and these tips are great!
I wear a small amount of eyeliner on my lid to make my lashes look a little thicker and primer on the bridge of your nose is a great tip too! I often find my foundation underneath my frames/on my nose melts quite quickly throughout the day so a good primer really helps! x

  27. Looking great Lily! I find I always have to go slightly heavier on the eye makeup as my glasses tend to minimise whatever makeup I put on ;) and yes, lashings of mascara is def the way to go! X

  29. I just got new (bigger) glasses a few months ago, and makeup is so much harder with them! I usually just end up using my glasses as an excuse to skip parts of my makeup routine since they tend to draw attention. I also have pretty strong brows that I've been using a brow definer to keep them under control, which has helped a lot. :)

  33. A great post. Everyone forgets glasses wearers wear makeup too! I've worn glasses since I was nine years old, so my entire makeup wearing life has been behind glasses. The key is not to use as much product on the top of your nose and between your brows. A powder is needed to set makeup wherever your glasses sit as it can become greasy and then cover your glasses. I've been wearing black rimmed glasses for years (switching this year to a different style so I don't look like everyone else!) and a good blush or bronzer can bring out eye colour too.

  44. Another thing would be to use light and shimmery eyeshadow, if you're myopic. The glasses really make your eyes appear smaller and I find dark eyeshadow only adds to that.

  45. Great tips, I also love to wear bright lip colours when wearing glasses :)

  51. I agree with all of this! I wear glasses full time and I find they can overwhelm my face if I don't fight back, haha. I need a strong brow always or I feel my face gets very lost behind them. Also, my dark circles look disgusting if I don't take extra good care of them. You've hit all the points!

  52. While applying make-up to blue eyes, it is very important to first wipe-off all old make-up. Once done the eyes would be similar to a blank canvas. This would help in enhancing the beauty of the contrast colors because if the ‘blank canvas’ is not created, the new color may gel with the old color giving a totally different output than what is expected. Once ready, it is important to apply a primer to the eyelids in order to prepare the eyes for the contrast color. If not for blue eyes, a black primer can be used which usually goes down well with almost all skin tones. Since blue eyes are special, it is very important to choose the right color while applying a make-up. If a primer is not readily available at hand, a concealer might also be used to create the desired foundation. The benefit or reason for using a primer or a concealer is that it helps the make-up to remain longer periods of time without fading away or fading out.
