first impressions face

rimmel matte bb cream*, Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer*, Michael Kors Bronzer in Beam*, Clarins Ombre Minerale in 07 Auburn, Bourjois Mega Liner, bourjois beautyful volume mascara, illamasqua intense lipgloss in maiden

So this post I decided to try something new that I hadn't done before... Do a whole look on my face for the first time, with each product being something I'f never used before. This was always going to be a challenge as I didn't know what to expect. I didn't fancy doing my makeup all over again, so I slapped it on and hoped for the best.

To start off this first impressions look - I used the Rimmel Matte BB Cream. A recent launch for Rimmel, but I've not heard too much about in the blogosphere. I thought sounded like a pretty good dupe for the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint so decided it'd be a good place to start. I have to admit it's similar, but found it slightly patchy and less glowy than the Jouer. A lot of my imperfections showed through even though it did even out my skin tone, you can kinda see my blemish marks in the photos. It's low-medium (buildable) coverage with a matte finish. I did apply with my fingers when I normally use a brush so when I tried it with a brush it did look much better. It lasted all day on me without a primer. Concealer wise I used the Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer. Which was good for hiding blemishes that the BB Cream didn't cover, but I didn't want to overload my face with concealer to counteract the BB cream in the name of testing it out so kept it targeted. It's very heavy duty and feels really thick as it's clearly designed to be more of a hardcore concealer as it's from the Double Wear Range.

I then used the Michael Kors Bronzer in Beam, which is nice but very shimmery - It's an evening bronzer than a day time one. Good quality and super smooth, which is a tick in my book. I've been pleasantly surprised with the MK makeup range so far! On my eyes, I used a Clarins single in 07 Auburn. I've been opting for quite a grungy dark brown eyeshadow look a lot recently, so this fits that perfectly. It's a mid tone brown with a tiny bit of shimmer which isn't too noticeable on the lid. I don't really like eyeshadow singles, opting for palettes as they are easier to grab. Even so, I really like this eyeshadow and Im going to make a mental note to use this more often.

To do my signature cat flick, I used the new Bourjois Mega Liner. Now this my friends is something else. Applied at 10am and was still as black and as sharp at 87pm when I took it off. Super black, opaque and long lasting. It's seriously good, and I 100% suggest getting this if you are a liner lover. Another Bourjois recent release is the Bourjois Beautyful Mascara. I really like this mascara despite its gimmicky mace like ball brush - think Givenchy Phenomen`Eyes Mascara. It gave good length and separation and really lifted my lashes up and out.

For the lips, I picked Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Maiden. I've had this a while but not tested it out, apart from when it was applied on the counter for me. A creamy neutral milky pinky peach. I like it but don't love it. I felt it was a bit gloomy and didn't sit very nicely on my lips. Im not a huge fan of lip glosses anyway so it was always not going to be a hit with me. The shade is nice, but it doesn't outweigh the formula unfortunately!
Do you think I should do some more of these first impression faces?

  1. It all looks so lovely on you Lily! I really want to try the Bourjois eyeliner but I'm a bit scared of the Mascara since I really disagreed with one of their others haha Xx

  2. I'm not a huge fan of Illamasqua lip glosses in general, I find them overly sticky and uncomfortable. Love Bourjois mascaras though I'm yet to try this so it's straight on my shopping list!
