trending : double cleansing

what is double cleansing
Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish*
Elemental Herbology Bio-Cellular Super Cleanse

Double cleansing removes every single last speck of dirt, makeup and SPF. A two-step cleansing technique has become increasingly popular in the last few years - I think the skincare goddess Caroline Hirons first brought it to my attention. Since ditching wipes and using proper cleansers, I've noticed a huge improvement in my skin. But since religiously double cleansing, my skin has never been better. It's currently spot free, less congested and feels super duper clean.

With double cleansing, it's best to use a combination of two cleansers - One to remove makeup and another to cleanse the face. For my makeup removing cleanse, I use the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. It's a cult beauty blogging favourite and I've found that it ticks all my cleansing boxes. It doesn't break me out, it removes my eye makeup and it doesn't dry my skin out. It's creamy and rich and removes even the most stubborn of mascara. For the second cleanse, I use something that is suitable for my skin type (oily/combo), but also does something else. For example - brightens the skin tone or helps fight spots. Right now I'm using the Elemental Herbology Bio-Cellular Super Cleanse as it's excellent at exfoliating the skin and brightening up the face. It is packed full of with gentle aha's which help to reduce congestion and balance the skin.

Used together these two have done wonders for my skin and for the first time in a long time I feel really confident with my skin. It's brighter, smoother and cleaner than it's ever been.

  1. I don't think I can ignore double cleansing for much longer - I definitely need to start doing this!

  2. Haven't thought what a difference it might make to do this before really. I'm so lazy with skincare, it hasn't been long since I've built up the strength to ditch face wipes! I might start doing this now though since I have a lot more spare time than I used to and if it's going to get rid of my spots like it has for you it'd definitely be worth it!

  4. I've wanted to try that cleanser for the longest time although I always worried it'd be too much for my sensitive skin, I love the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser it works so well with my skin, and m a big fan of double cleansing especially if I've been wearing SPF :) x

  9. I love Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish. I just love using a muslin cloth whilst cleansing to gently exfoliate in general though!

  10. I haven't tried the Liz Earle, but I've heard that Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser is a great dupe for it. It's only £5 and I love it. Perfect for the 1st stage of my double cleanse.

  12. Great post!

I'm all about double cleansing now too!
However sometimes I use a make-up wipe first so I don't have to use way too many cotton pads with my other two cleansers. I end with a oil brightening cleanser so my skin doesn't dry out.
So I guess that's triple cleansing? lol

  13. I have heard Kate from gh0stparties rave about the Elemental Herbiology cleanser before.. she seems a g=big fan of the thing, what I read about it was that its meant for mature skin so gave it a pass! Sounds like a good one though!
